pecha kucha night - el paso
Pecha Kucha (pronounced peh-cha ku-cha)

It's time for the design talent in El Paso to "See & Be Seen."

Here's the chance for you, designers of all kinds, to tell the world about YOUR big ideas! Break out of those pesky specialties, see what cool things are going on right here in town. Who knows you might just stimulate some cross-discipline collaborations & connections & maybe even get inspired in the process.

We have invited designers in product design, interactive media, photography, illustration, fashion, graphics, film, video, architecture & landscape to stand-up and show the world what they can do.

Alice Leora Briggs
Vol. 02 | Category: Fine Arts
For many years Briggs has taught painting and drawing in art schools and universities in the United States , including The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and University of Arizona . Since May 2005, she has worked full time as a professional artist. Her drawings are included in collections of the de Young Museum, San Francisco; University of Iowa Museum of Art, Iowa City; Nora Eccles Harrison Museum, Logan, UT; Tucson Museum of Art, Tucson, AZ; Firestone Graham Foundation, Albuquerque, NM; The Diane and Sandy Besser Collection, Santa Fe; Frank/Sugiyama Collection, Santa Fe, New York and Tokyo.

To make drawings, I incise white marks into black surfaces with a knife. Called sgraffito, my drawing method originated in 13th century German wall decoration and later was used to embellish ceramics in 16th century Italy . This method of humble artistic origins, now helps me cast light across scenes cobbled from myriad circumstances, times and places. My current focus is Cuidad Juarez. In this city one sees fiction in action, even an hour is time enough to blend truth with myth.
